Play RAR?
Wouldn't it be nice to be able to play tv episodes and movies without unpacking the rar files? And doing it with a simple click?

The instructions below shows how you create a right-click menu on release folders for playback in MPC.

  1. Download and extract the latest version of Media Player Classic in the dir C:\Program Files\MPC\ <--IMPORTANT!: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/guliverkli/mpc2kxp6490.zip?modtime=1142869788&big_mirror=0

  2. Download and install the latest ffdshow codec: http://www.free-codecs.com/FFDshow_download.htm

  3. Download and install Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=BD2A6171-E2D6-4230-B809-9A8D7548C1B6

  4. Download and install RARFileSource, a DirectShow filter: http://www.v12pwr.com/RARFileSource/RARFileSource-v0.9.1.exe

  5. Download and replace the ax-file in C:\Program Files\RarFileSource\: http://www.team-mediaportal.com/extensions/video-audio/rarfilesource-team-mediaportal-version

  6. Download, unpack and install this custom reg-file to create the right-click menu: http://whyrar.omfg.se/MPC.LiNK.ENG-Noam.rar
All done.

Note.
  • On releases with multiple CDs you have to right click the CD-folders to start the movie.
  • RARFileSource only works on rar archives without compression. All scene releases are uncompressed.
  • The right-click menu does not work with MPC-HC.
  • The replacement ax-file fixes a bug in rarfilesource that stopped it from reading IMMERSE among others.

    Tips & Tricks.
If you know how to edit a reg-file you can play around with other MPC commands. In the reg-file you can see that the command /play is sent to MPC to start playback directly. Other available commands include /fullscreen and /monitor 2 to make MPC go to fullscreen mode on your TV. Just add the wanted commands to the reg-file so the line looks like this:
    @ = "\"C:\\Program Files\\MPC\\mplayerc.exe\" \"%L/*.rar\" /play /monitor 2 /fullscreen"
